Houghton Tennis Club in Houghton-on-the-Hill, Leicestershire, has secured a grant of £50,000 to build a new clubhouse from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

The School Games arrived in Leicestershire last week with hundreds of local children taking part in a range of sports. Tennis had the Y3/4 and Y7/8 county finals as part of the event with 19 schools taking part.

The excitement of Wimbledon continued at a nursery where youngsters enjoyed their own mini tennis tournament.

A two-week programme of sports and physical activities is to be held in Leicester's parks.

More than 1,000 of the county's most gifted athletes were given their starting orders by Olympic gold medalist Jason Gardener yesterday.

In the end it was one match too far as Andy Murray failed to make Wimbledon history by becoming the first British men's champion for more than 70 years.

There may be little sign of a Leicestershire tennis player starring at Wimbledon any time soon, but we do have one man to look out for on the hallowed turf at SW19 during the tournament fortnight.

Come and join in at the free Everyone Active Open Day at Enderby Leisure Centre.

The 2012 Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport Oldest Athlete Celebration Event is taking place on 1st October.
