On Saturday 4th January the U12 boys and girls teams were in action at Corby Tennis Centre in the 12 Counties Competition.
The girls team consisted of Lilia Boukikova, Sarah Astill, Katie Twelves and Kirsty Finlay and their first match was a tough one against a very strong Nottingham Side.
All of the girls played well with Kirsty coming though 4-0, 1-4, 10-3 in the match tie break to secure a point. Overall Leics 1 – Notts 3
Next up were Norfolk and Lilia got us off to a great start with a 5-3, 4-1 win at No:1. Despite some great battling and very close matches this proved to be our only rubber of the tie.
Leics 1- Norfolk 3.
Last up for the girls were Hereford and Worcester and despite some earlier close losses the girls were in great spirits. Sarah played some of her best tennis winning 4-2, 5-3. Katie followed this up with a 4-1, 4-1 win and Kirsty sealed the draw winning 4-2, 4-0. Leics 3 – H & W 1.
On the boys half of the draw we had Oliver Burt, Matthew Howse, George McWilliams and Louis Marsden representing us.
The boys made a great start with Oli winning 4-2, 4-1 and Matt following up with a 4-1, 4-1 win. George narrowly lost 3-5, 1-4 in a long match before Louis won 4-0, 4-1 to seal the tie.
Leics 3 – Notts 1
Norfolk were next and started strong winning at 1. Matt produced another excellent performance to win 4-1, 5-3 levelling the tie.
George gave an excellent account of himself but was pipped 3-5, 5-4 (7-5), 9-11. Louis was a machine at No: 4 barely missing a ball to win 4-0, 4-0 and keeping the match to a draw.
Leics 2 – Norfolk 2.
Last match was against Hereford and Worcester.
Felix Gill produced a great display to beat Oli 4-1, 5-3. Matt Howse kept his unbeaten record by winning 4-1, 4-1. George added to the score with a 4-1, 4-1 win before Louis had the longest match of the day just missing out 4-5 (7-5), 4-1, 13-15.
Leics 2 – H&W 2
From a captains perspective I couldn’t have asked for more from my team, the played with passion and were a credit to the county both off and on court. There were many great performances but Matt Howse deserves a special mention playing some very strong tennis and winning all of his matches.
