Fallows Cup 2013

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

For the first time in Fallows cup history, Lutterworth reached the final after knocking out Leicester Forest East and Ashby.

Their opponents, Leicestershire are no stranger to the competition having won the trophy 9 times in the 42 years' history of the event and have featured in the final even more times. They made it to the final by defeating Victoria and Hamilton, the 2012 champions.

The girls' match was very one- sided with Leicestershire winning 6-0,6-1 despite excellent serving from Morgan. Jen and Amy dominated from the start making it very difficult for Meg and Morgan to get into the match.

The boys doubles was a much closer affair. Leicestershire raced away with the first set and got an early break in the second but Lutterworth dug in taking it 7-5. The third set was neck and neck initially but Lutterworth coped better with their nerves taking it 10-6.

Leicestershire's doubles pairing, Jen and Ian, took on Lutterworth's Morgan and Alex. Leicestershire yet again ran way with the first set 6-3, but the table turned with Lutterworth running way with the second- 6-2. The match tie-break was tense - Lutterworth went 5-1 up but the change of end resulted in Leicestershire winning the next 5 points. At 6-5 up Leicestershire hung onto their lead eventually winning 10-8.

There was a fantastic range of shot making from all players and a special mention must be made to Alex Simpson for his outstanding play. It was quite fitting that it went to a third set in the mixed doubles.

Teams:

Leics - Jen Gadsby, Amy Warwick, Brett Parlour, Ian Barnett
