The Mark Wormleighton 2013 was held on Saturday 18th January 2014!
For the first time in several years we had a full complement of 8 boys (Arun Bhogal, Zain Girach, Josh Graves, Matt Howse, Andrew Laurel, Louis Marsden, George McWilliams, Freddie Middleton) and 8 girls (Sarah Astill, Lilia Boukikova, Leah Denning, Kirsty Finlay, Shayna Patel, Eleanor Shaw, Katie Twelves, Abigail Wilkin).
The girls’ first round saw a tough match between Abigail Wilkins and Kirsty Finlay with Abigail just coming out on top with a 10-7 win in the third set. The semi-final between Sarah Astill and Eleanor Shaw was even more nail biting with the third set going to Eleanor 14 – 12. However, Lilia Boukikova make very light work of the final against Eleanor, not dropping a game.
The boys’ draw began with great performances from all the boys. Everyone played with confidence and we saw some great battles and impressive shot making. The final between Matt Howse and Zain Girach was of a very high standard, with not only great hitting, but clever thinking and superb drop shots. Although Zain got a good start Matt kept calm and eventually took the match 5-3,4-2.
It was lovely that Valerie Wormleighton, the mother of Mark was able to watch the finals and present the trophies.
