A record entry of over 171 players (including 33 mini red players and 27 mini orange players) entered this year's Grade 4 LTA supported Grantham Junior Open Championships held at Grantham Tennis Club. The tournament was sponsored by the Duke & Duchess of Rutland and the excellent tournament referee Peter Greatorex had an incident free week with matches flowing smoothly over the seven courts.
Evening events during the week laid on by the club included, 10 pin bowling, Pizza night and a free Hog Roast on the Friday.
Despite early atrocious weather on Finals day, former tennis pro and Sky Sports commentator Mark Petchey was on hand to present prizes. Mark also spent a couple of hours on court hitting and dispensing coaching advice to a never ending stream of young players eager to take a point or two off of Andy Murrays former coach and despite the conditions the tournament finished on time.
Tournament organiser Tim Bass would like to thank all the volunteers and players and parents who made this years event so memorable.
