On the first day we were up against a very strong Berkshire Team. Ed and Andrew were first on and although they both played some good tennis, we were 2-0 down. Unfortunately Henry and Joe also lost two very close matches. The good news was Joe and Henry picked themselves up and won their doubles match, so they tell me they are still unbeaten in England! We went down 5-1 overall losing the second doubles. We then suffered an even heavier defeat that night at the dogs! Things could only get better!
And they did! Next day it was Shropshire, Seb grabbed his opportunity with both hands and got us off to the perfect start with a demolition job on his opponent. Quickly followed by Andrew and Joe. Henry lost a really close match against a very strong No.2. The victory was sealed when Ed and Seb joined forces to win the first doubles match closely followed by Joe and Henry who still remain unbeaten in England!
Final day saw us take on Staffs for third / fourth place. Again the demolition man ‘Seb’ got us off to the perfect start wasting no time, then Andrew decided to keep us biting our nails with victory in the third. Joe calmly saw off his opponent without too much fuss. Henry had another tough match and this time came out with a well deserved victory, so we were 4-0 up. Ed and Seb went on to make it 5-0 in style.
So overall we finished third. Henry and Joe remain unbeaten in England, and Ed and Seb remain unbeaten. Both myself and Sam enjoyed the weekend thoroughly and in the words of Henry Beesley “a successful County Cup”.
