AEGON Ladies Summer County Cup

Thursday, August 22, 2013

On the first day they had their toughest match, Somerset, and went down 7-2.  Day two saw the team play local rivals Derbyshire, where they came out on top, 5-4. This was not without drama though as Jane Hunter had to withdraw after the second round with a serious calf tear.

The last day of competition saw Lincolnshire playing for both 2nd place and to avoid relegation with three teams all drawn on one win. The first round of matches was very close, but the team pulled together and fought hard for a 6-3 win against Cornwall, despite another injury retirement as Sam Vickers was struggling with a recurring shoulder problem.

After three great days of tennis they deservedly gain 2nd place in their group after only losing to the eventual group winners, Somerset and secured their place in group 5 for next year.

Team match secretary Faye would like to thank all the team for a fantastic few days of tennis, and a great time off the court too. She would also like to thanks Philip and the team sponsors at Totemic for all of their support. The whole team are very much looking forward to going back to five days of play next summer.
