August 2013

It is with sadness we announce the passing away of Dennis Hernaman of Grantham.

Dennis passed away after a short illness and will be missed for his contribution to tennis and as well as in his role of Grantham Tennis Club Life President.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 13 August at 2pm at Manthorpe Church.

This year Lincs mens' county team travelled to Cambridge to contest Group 5 of Summer County week.

The Lincs team consisted of a youngish and largely inexperienced team to contest, what, on paper, looked a strong group. Read on for more info but the good news is that Lincs men are promoted to Group 4 next year!

With Andy Murray having just won Wimbledon, Sleaford Tennis Club held a celebratory Murraymania Open Day on 21 July to get the message over that Tennis is a sport for all, anyone can play from aged 3 all the way to 80+.

Sleaford Tennis Club unveiled new tennis courts in 2012 and can now announce their successful bid that has secured £50,000 of Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund, to go towards their new pavilion at their recently built courts at the Recreation Ground, Boston Road, Sleaford.

See more details of the project here

To celebrate this award, Sleaford Tennis Club would like to invite local people to a free taster session from 2-5pm on Saturday 17th August to try out the sport.  If you've never played before or are looking to get back to the game. Come and join us, we look forward to meeting you. For more information please contact Joe Robinson at joe.robbo94@hotmail.co.uk

All our Lincolnshire players (Josh Elliott, Sean Hodkin, Jess Jackson and Dana Kenneally-Forrester) got through to the main singles draw of the National 14U Challenge 2013.

The boys were in the same half of the draw and ended up playing each other again, the result a repeat of the County final with Sean the victor, although not for long as he was then beaten in the quarter finals by the number 4 seed.

Both Lincs girls, Dana Kenneally-Forrester and Jess Jackson were in the singles consolation draw with Dana playing well but losing the consolation final in 3 sets.

(Dana's younger brother Blake also set foot on the hallowed turf by taking part in a 1 hour clinic/master class with Tim Henman as his Ballboy partner!)

The LTA and Tennis Foundation support the Fair Play values -  Enjoy. Respect – and are committed to having a sport that is fair, accessible and welcoming to all.

In order to further promote Fair Play and improve the experience at tournaments, training camps and all tennis venues, Counties are appointing Fair Play Ambassadors to be the local face of Fair Play.

The voluntary Fair Play Ambassadors will talk to players, parents and coaches at tournaments and training camps, ensure Fair Play becomes a regular item at County meetings and be the point of contact for others to share suggestions on how to support the Fair Play initiative and address areas of concern.

We currently have Patricia Kenneally-Forrester as a parent Fairplay Ambassador and if any player or coach is interested we’d be happy to hear from you too.

Support and guidance will be given to all Fair Play Ambassadors to ensure they can effectively carry out the role.

Lincolnshire Ladies were in action at the Aegon Summer County Cup in Tunbridge Wells at the end of July.

The team, captained by Lianne Tapson, included; Jane Hunter, Helen Povah, Charlie Windley, Faye Button, Sam Vickers, Laura White, and Madeline Verdegaal.
