On the first day we took on the strongest county of the week, Somerset. Having really pushed them hard the eventual outcome was a tight 5-4 defeat, with two wins for James Shacklock and Will Mason, and one apiece for Ed Allinson and James White and Harry Burley and Joe Woolley.
After a disappointing but close loss, came a crunch tie on Tuesday against Cornwall. Nip and tuck throughout the whole day it eventually came down to the deciding rubber, with Ed Allinson and James Shacklock winning it 76 76, to give Lincs the victory, 5-4!
Onto to Wednesday and a tie with Durham & Cleveland, in what always promised to be a tough day, Lincs went down 6-3, with two wins for Allinson and Shacklock, and a good win for David Scales and Joe Woolley.
Thursday on paper looked to be the easiest day of the week against a depleted Bedfordshire team. Although some tight matches were played Lincs, ran out convincing 9-0 victories, with three wins apiece for the teams of Allinson/Burley, Scales/White and Woolley/Dom Beesley. A special mention must go to Dominic who played on despite getting a serve smack bang on the nose, and being in obvious discomfort!
Onto Friday. Arriving at the courts in the morning, all results were open; win, and we looked certain for promotion, lose, a good chance of relegation! The tie against Hereford & Worcester always promised to be a nail biter and that's exactly what it was!
2-1 down after the first round of matches, Lincs dug really deep winning all three of the second round matches with wins for Allinson/Burley, Shacklock/Mason and a fantastic three set win for Scales/Woolley against there number 1 pairing!
Needing one rubber from the final round for promotion it duely came with a convincing win for Scales/Woolley, leaving the team and supporters jubilant!
A fantastic effort from all 8 lads involved, and a tremendous result moving Lincs up to group 4 for next year! A big thanks also for all the parents who came and supported throughout the week! Hopefully the same result next year!
