Over a long weekend in Northampton, Lincolnshire was represented by four young men who played with pride and passion for their County.
Matthew Gedney, returned to lead the team after last years run to the National Finals, accompanied in the singles lineup by Jacob Ainsworth and Max Jones. The team was complete with doubles specialist, Harvey Booth.
Both matches on the opening day were close, tight contests. Gedney showed his class, beating both the Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire number one players. After singles losses at number two and three, the doubles matches against both teams needed to be won.
Gedney and Booth who were cheered on by the best supporters at the venue, played inspired tennis to win both matches. This sent both matches to tiebreak shootouts.
The shootout against Nottinghamshire was a joy to watch, both teams playing nerveless, quality tennis. Neither team deserved to lose; on this occasion we shook hands with the victors Nottinghamshire with our heads held high.
The shootout against Northamptonshire was the highlight of the weekend, won with pride and passion, encapsulating the qualities of the Lincolnshire team
Day two was ruined by rain and wet, slippy courts. Gedney would only play a few games, unable to continue after a nasty fall. The team battled through the remaining matches, but to no avail. Yet, the spirit and passion never faulted.
The results may tell you a different story, but I am assure you; our boys won every match they played this weekend.
