Lincs 10U girls Aegon County Cup Group A Team were Alice Gamman, Stephanie Ainsworth, Isabel Wookey and Christie Halton as reserve.
We had a fun weekend which I think everyone enjoyed despite some very tough opposition. The whole team were very supportive of each other including a great bunch or parents. The new hoodies proved useful as goal posts for the between matches football and the girls choreographed some imaginative dance routines too. (See photos)
Fortunately we had a positive start playing Northamptonshire first. Alice and Steffi only dropped a couple of games. Issie fought her way through a first set tie beak and then only lost one game in the second set. Alice and Christie played doubles together and played good doubles only dropping 2 games throughout. A 4-0 win for Lincs!!
Much tougher opposition awaited the girls when they played Leicestershire. Alice made an amazing start against Leics very good number one. Alice's strong backhand surprised her opponent and forced errors which kept Alice in the first set up to 2-all but it wasn't to be and despite courageous defending the rest went Leics's way. Steffie and Issie both managed to win 1 game each in their singles. Alice and Christie played the doubles and with the help of a ready supply of Jelly Babies took the first set 4-2. Even Jelly Babies couldn't help the cause as Leics dug in and closed the match out in a tie break. Leics won 4-0
Next up was Nottingham- another strong team. Issie had the closest and longest match, using the court really well with her angles and pushing her opponent to 3 all in the second set. Alice and Steffi played the doubles this time and forced a close first set. Nottingham won 4-0
We perfected the high five routines for the last match against Warwickshire and kept morale up as best we could. Alice and Issie both won a couple of games in their singles but the final score was 4-0 to Warwickshire.
The girls and their parents were lovely to work with and tried very hard both in training and on the match courts. They were a young team with 2 playing up from 9U. We bagged lots of valuable tournament experience which will hopefully pay dividends in the future.
