The 14U Girls County Cup team this year was at Lincoln Eastgate Club. When we have a local venue for our group we don’t stay in a hotel the night before but meet on the first day of the event. Saturday morning at 10am. The team consisted of Vicky Beardsley, Lucy Hull, and Rosie Thomas, Pippa Bourne and Madeline Jones.
Day 1 v Norfolk
Pippa and Rosie went on first at numbers 4 & 3.
Pippa fought hard but went down in 3 tight sets. Rosie despite being a little ring rusty came through in 2 sets. Lucy at number 2 had a great match and fought hard against a tough opponent narrowly going down in 3 sets. Vicky at number 1 competed bravely against very strong player and went down in 2 sets.
Rosie and Pippa lost the 2nd pair doubles and Vicky and Lucy came through playing some exciting doubles to win at first pair.
In all a 4-2 loss that could so very easily been a 4-2 win to us!!
Day 2 v Bedfordshire
This was a rain delayed started match having warmed up at the bowling alley in the morning!
A good tennis day winning all 4 singles matches with only Vicky dropping a set to a good player!
Madeline stepped in for Pippa to play with Rosie to open her county carer with a win in 3 sets. Lucy and Vicky were again impressive with their doubles.
Day 3 v Suffolk (3rd and 4th place play off)
Today was a reversal of the day before. We lost 6-0 today. Pippa put up a great show by taking a stronger player to 3 close sets but just coming up short.
Nobody else got past 3 in a set but all played well under the circumstances. Suffolk narrowly lost the day before and could just have easily won the group.
I think 4th was probably a fair finish for Lincs this weekend. The girls all tried hard and were a pleasure to Captain.
