Greg Rusedski makes launch visit to Boston TC for Aegon Team Tennis

A visit by Greg Rusedski gave a great boost to proceedings at Boston Tennis Club on Sunday 26 April. National attention was drawn to the number of teams that Boston had entered in the Aegon Team Tennis competition – 26 teams of all age groups and the second highest number entered by any club countrywide.

Sunday was one of the busiest days at the club with 8 home matches and for a major part of the day the outdoor courts were buzzing with competitors. Greg Rusedski arrived at 12 noon in time to watch some exciting finishes to the morning matches and to catch the start of the 2 regional matches. Greg spent a lot of time talking to spectators, competitors and team captains, having endless photographs taken and signing autographs. He also took to the courts along with club coaches Richard Cook and Steve Wood for a hitting session with the juniors. It was a fantastic recognition for Boston Tennis Club from the National organisers and overall a very happy occasion.

The Aegon Team Tennis matches also delivered in both terms of standard and often in results. The Boston Tennis Club men – Henry Beesley, Lewis Fisher, Felix Beech and Sam Kemp played Leicester Forest East in the East Midlands division of the Regional Aegon Team Tennis Leagues. It stood 2 all after the singles and then Boston won both the doubles to deliver a 4-2 win. This is a great start for the team.

The other regional match was Boston under 14 girls against Dallington in the Midlands region. A close match for Vicki Beardsley, Lucy Hull, Chloe Robinson and Paris Royal that went to a tie-break shoot out narrowly lost by Boston.

For the under 14 girls B team playing in the county division against Tennis Buddies it was a win in the tie-break shoot out. The team was Paris Royal, Tabitha Priestley, Faith Coffey, Louise Sharpe and Neve Mackey.

Morning matches had both Green A and B teams playing Burton Waters and Tealby respectively. William Cheer, Alice Gamman, Serena Morrow and Rebecca Dickens won on a tie break shoot out whereas the B team – Lilia Halyova, Isabelle Servonat, Lucy Hopper and Isabel Wookey missed out to Tealby.

Boston Red A – Emily Stukins, James Gedney, Finley Mackey and Jacob Felipes had a win over Grantham B team whilst Boston Red B – William Pettit, Poppy Gibbons, Jacob Scuffham and Georgina Cameron lost out to Grantham A team.

Boston Ladies captained by Emma Mastin and with Jane Hindmarch, Victoria Needham and Charlotte Priestley playing had a 5-1 win over Louth Indoor.

Boston Men seconds also had a 5-1 win over Horncastle - the team was Calum McCaig, James Newton, Alex Cobb, Mike Burnett, Dom Layton-Hannam.
