It was funky beats all the way at Teesside University as they hosted a Cardio For Teachers course this week!
Just under 20 teachers came from across the North East, bounced to the beat and learnt about delivering the fun, fitness based tennis activity to their students!
All of them were exhausted after the 3 hour workshop and were buzzing to get Cardio Tennis back into their schools.
The three hour Cardio Tennis Teacher Training Course has been developed to provide secondary school teachers with the knowledge and skills to deliver Cardio Tennis within a school environment. Cardio Tennis is a tennis inspired workout played to up-tempo music. It does not require tennis skills, but is all about keeping your heart rate up, burning calories and having fun. Whether the ball goes in or out is irrelevant as the main purpose is to get fit and stay healthy.
Teachers attending the course are provided with a copy of the ‘Cardio Tennis Teacher Resource’ which contains guidance, activity cards and lesson plans to support teachers to deliver Cardio Tennis and provide pupils with a fun, tennis inspired workout.
Teachers are also provided with guidance on how to implement and market Cardio Tennis, how Cardio Tennis can link to other curriculum subject areas as well as how to access guidance and resources to support the delivery of both traditional and modifi ed versions of the sport in schools.
In addition, schools will receive an AEGON Schools Tennis Cardio Equipment Starter Pack (limited to one per school and if your school has not previously received one).
Pip Bell who is the Sport Development Officer at the University who helped organise the course said,
"The session was awesome and you could tell the teachers were inspired by this different form of tennis. The music and fitness based activities make it a great workout and lots of fun!"
