Cardio Tennis Helps Change For Life

Friday, June 12, 2015

62 girls from 4 local primary schools across Newcastle were put through their paces at the Ultimate Woman and Girls Soccer (WAG’s) Change For Life Festival on June 12th, 2015.

The event took place at the Centre For Sport in Newcastle with cardio tennis being run by local coaches Caitlin Hindmarsh and Alison Cartmell.  The WAGS programme provides girl’s the opportunity to play football after school and create a structured pathway for the girls to be involved in football out of school at a club/community setting, whilst also introducing them to sports such as tennis to showcase other opportunities and pathways.

Cardio Tennis is a fun, sociable group fitness class set on a tennis court or similar space and open to people of all ages and abilities.  Supported by music and qualified instructors, people get to hit lots of tennis balls during the class and have a great cardio workout at the same time.

Caitlin was buzzing after the session,

“To see the girls loving the cardio tennis was great.  A lot of the girls said that they liked the music and they were active the whole time!”

Jo Cunliffe, Regional Tennis Participation Manager (RTPM) said,

“We have really seen a great uptake for cardio tennis across Newcastle, with regular sessions taking place in parks and clubs.  Hopefully some of these young girls will continue to bounce to the beat at some cardio tennis either at their school or other venues!”
