Joe Race Started playing tennis aged 14 at his local Tennis Club, where he was approached by the head coach and asked to if he was interested in coaching. This is where his coaching career started.
Having his favourite shot as his serve and favourite surface as grass, Race gains enjoyment working with the younger generation, having fun and aims to increase their knowledge of tennis.
Joe, enjoys the idea of introducing new children to the sport who have never tried tennis before. He aims to get kids excited about tennis and wants them to introduce the sport to their friends. Being part of the Tennis For Kids programme gave Race, the motivation to increase the legacy and pursue Primary Teaching come September 2016. Following on from the teaching sessions, Joe wants to repay the faith shown by the selection panel in choosing him to represent the GB Davis Cup Legacy. This will be achieved through planning, being resourceful and implementing what he has learnt over the years from Phil Barron.
The key to tennis coaching is patience and encouragement. Race believe it is important to keep this up throughout the 6 weeks of the Tennis For Kids Programme.
Jo Race stated that he aims to “Introduce tennis to a new generation of kids and promote the club in a successful light that showcases what’s available to kids within Cramlington and that there are other sports out there.”
Phil Barron is Joe’s tennis role model, he believe he is ‘one of the greatest club coaches’ with Wimbledon being his favourite tournament to watch because of the atmosphere is gives out to the spectators. Joe has been to three out of four grand slams, with the Australian Open still to attend.
Joe aims to run his sessions during June. To find out more information please visit https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/tennisforkids.
