Easter holidays are fast approaching, which will bring the familiar chorus of children asking “What can we do today?” Frome Selwood Tennis Club (FSTC) may just have the answer. FSTC will be running its very successful Easter Holiday Tennis Camp again this year. The tennis camp runs over three days during the school break, and is open to children aged 5 to 12 of all playing abilities.
The Tennis Camp will be run by the clubs regular coaching team, all of who have completed the required Lawn Tennis Association qualifications. This is a great chance to introduce children to tennis, or if they have played before, then the expert tuition will help improve their game. The morning sessions will include a mixture of tuition, training drills and short games.
Younger children play on smaller courts with low pressure balls which slows the game down, and allows them to develop the basics of the game. The number of children playing tennis is steadily increasing and this small friendly club in Frome has been making great strides in this area. Your child may already be familiar with the club, during last summer they ran a very successful programme called ‘Little Aces’ in many of the local Primary Schools which introduced Mini Tennis to 6 and 7 year olds. Throughout the year there are coaching sessions every week and once your child has become a member they can make full use of the 3 courts situated not far from the town centre.
The Easter Tennis Camp will run from 12th to 14th April, from 9 am to 12 pm, the cost will be £15 per day or £40 for 3 days. Details and entry form can be downloaded from the website: frometennis.net or contact FSTC’s Head Coach: Muir MacKean on 07977 121144
FSTC is a registered provider for a Somerset County Council initiative called Give it a Go! The scheme provides funding for out of school activities for children who are eligible for free school meals or are in local authority care. Further details can be obtained from the website.
