Somerset player Richard Gabb has recently won his first professional doubles title at a men’s futures event in Cambodia, South East Asia.
Gabb who is ranked 742 in singles and 958 in doubles has been playing professional events for the last two years after plying his trade firstly at Millfield Prep, then Millfield Senior School and to the International High Performance Centre in Bath where he currently has his training base.
Gabb lost out in the singles in Cambodia to Ting Yu Chuang of Chinese Taipei. After winning the first set 7-5 he then lost out 6-2 6-2. This was his first time he had been knocked out in the first round of a futures event since September. In between he made two quarter finals of futures events in Israel.
His real success came in the doubles event with his partner Marcos Daniell from New Zealand, who also has his training base at Bath Academy. They won the title after comfortably negotiating their way through four rounds of matches, without dropping a set
In the finals they even managed to beat their Chinese opponents without the loss of one game, with only dropping one game to an Austrian and New Zealand partnership in the same finals

Richard is a keen supporter of Somerset Tennis, always turning out for the county cup when he possibly can. This happened most recently in Taunton 2011 helping us to stay up against Durham and Cleveland in the winter competition and in North Oxford 2011 when Somerset got promoted from Group 5 to Group 4 in the summer competition.
