Toby Mitchell from Mark, near Burnham-On-Sea has recently qualified for the season ending British Tour Masters Finals. The British Tour is a series of Grade 1 and Grade 2 events aimed at supporting upcoming British Players and more low ranked play events in this country in a competitive environment with generous prize money.
Mitchell qualified for the 32 man event after collecting points at the various British Tour Events across the year. Qualifying represents a good year for Mitchell who has been mixing these events with qualification for futures events and training hard at the International High Performance Centre in Bath.
Mitchell is off to play college tennis in the USA in January, joining fellow Somerset player Andrew Bettles at Boise State in Idaho. He is pictured with Bettles on a recent visit to America.
Fresh off leading the line in Group 5 of winter County Cup where he picked up singles wins, he travelled up to Nottingham Tennis Centre to compete in the event. Unfortunately the draw didn’t work out too well, being drawn against world no 407, Richard Bloomfield, who at the peak of his career won rounds at Wimbledon and has been ranked inside the world’s top 200 players.
