Update from the Avenue Tennis Club

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

On the day that Roger Federer broke Pete Sampras’ exceptional Grand Slam Wins record the Avenue Tennis Club held its Annual Open Day and watched Roger make history against Andy Roddick in a great final.

The Open day started just after 11:15 with Head Coach, Vinny Duddy, introducing the coaches and advising the new potential members that the club’s Wimbledon New Membership Offer meant that they could join the club during the month of July for half the normal annual membership fee, included within this offer was 3 FREE group coaching lessons for both adults and juniors (Under 10’s – normally £25 – now £12.50, 10 – 18 year olds – now £17.50 – see website for more price details www.avenuetennis.com).

The players were sent out with Barry Ramsden on red balls (under 8’s), Emily Rossiter on orange balls (8 – 10 year olds), Jamie Allen on green and yellow balls (10 – 16 year olds) with Greg Kydd taking up the challenge of the adults.

The Prince Boys - Pete and Kevin In attendance on the day were Tony Pryce Sports who were demonstrating rackets, Prince Tennis Rackets demonstrator Peter Naine and his boss Kevin Webb showed off the new Prince Exo 3 range and Konrad Breeze from Lucozade Sports displayed and gave away some free products (drinks and energy bars).

The Avenue Ladies Poo Jenkins, Julie Cameron, Jane Sanders and Ladies Captain, Lyn O’Dell worked really hard to provide all the attendees with hot food including strawberries and cream. Club Chairman, Gordon Hunter took charge of the Pimms.

Greg and the adults Head coach, Vinny Duddy thought the day was a great success with about 15 new members signed up on the day. He was especially grateful to all the coaches and their helpers as they did a fantastic job with their charges. He would also like to thank the ladies for their hard work in the kitchen and Gordon for the Pimms.

The next event at the tennis club is the School Summer Holiday Junior Tennis Camp which will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm during weekdays 23rd July – 7th Aug. If you would like any further information please contact Vinny on 01278 782758 or visit the website www.avenuetennis.com.
