Despite the overcast weather well over fifty people attended the Great British Tennis Weekend Open Day at Frome Selwood Tennis Club in Somerset Road on Sunday May 17th. There was a good mix of all ages from 3 years upwards. Quite a number of the adults were trying tennis again after a long break away from the sport. Coaching was on hand for juniors and adults, also free play and a speed of serve competition, with a BBQ and refreshments available all day. One mum and son combination who really enjoyed themselves were Sharon and Daniel Garrett who said they found the day great fun and really enjoyed themselves.
‘The event was a great success with many new faces appearing at the club’, said Club Chairman, John Price. ‘We are hoping to see several of them join the club and learn what a fun and social game tennis can be’. The club, who are planning to build three new courts in partnership with Frome Town Council in the next few months, are running their second Open Day on Sunday June 14th where all events will again be free. In the meantime, coaching for adults is on Saturday afternoons at 1.30pm with Junior Coaching running throughout the week.
