Frome Selwood Tennis Club will be formally presented with Tennis Clubmark at around 5.30pm on Friday 20th November at its Clubhouse in Somerset Road. The award will be made by James Deem who is the LTA’s Tennis Development Officer for Somerset and Dorset. The award marks the culmination of a two year programme of activity for the club and it ensures that the club’s programmes, policies and procedures are all in line with best practice.
Clubmark is being gradually implemented across 24 sports, with each governing body administering its own criteria with overall support from Sport England.
All clubs awarded with Tennis Clubmark:
Deliver appropriate tennis opportunities to all players whatever their ability
Provide regular competitive opportunities for their members, particularly juniors.
Ensure the well-being of young tennis players whilst in the care of adults other than their legal parents and carers.
Enthuse tennis players to enjoy tennis and perform to the best of their ability.
Enable tennis players to optimise their talents and personal ability.
Identify and support the development of the most talented tennis players.
On announcement of the award, the club’s Chairman John Price said: “We are overjoyed. We hope that this award will open the door to further funding for the club and is evidence that we must be getting most things right. It’s been hard work, but we have been assisted all the way by the LTA. This is one of the most important events for the club in recent times”.
The Club is one of the smallest in Somerset to achieve Clubmark. It has around 125 adult members, and there are a small number of vacancies. The junior coaching membership of around 60 is growing fast.
