Somerset’s Richard Gabb has seen his ATP world ranking soar on the back of two brilliant performances in Turkey and Greece Futures events on the ITF Pro Circuit.
The 21-year-old reached career-best rankings of 410 in singles and 294 in doubles after he finished as runner-up in both the singles and doubles draws of the F36 Turkey event in early September, a semi-final finish in the singles draw of the F14 Greece event as well as a doubles runners-up place and a singles title victory at the F15 Greece event in Marathon, Athens, the following week.
Gabb, from Street, beat Theodoros Angelinos 7-6(5), 6-2, who is ranked inside the top 300, in the final of the F15 Greece singles to win his first Futures singles title of the season. Gabb also finished as runner-up in the doubles draw alongside Germany’s Tobias Simon. The pair lost to Italian duo Claudio Grassi and Riccardo Ghedin 6-3, 7-5 in the title match.
The Street player’s most recent doubles victory came in early September at the F35 Turkey event in Antalya-Belconti . Alongside his regular partner Marucs Daniell, New Zealand, Gabb won his 8th doubles title after a 6-2, 7-5 win over Matteo Marfia and Francesco Vilardo of Italy.
Gabb is now ranked as the British number 14 and a continuation of his current form could see him rise higher.
