Taunton Tennis Club recently played host to a half term grade four tournament which saw Somerset’s Amelia Davies shine in the girls’ 16 and under event.
Davies completed an impressive title victory with a 4-1, 4-2 win over Lancashire’s Natalie Finn in the final of the girls’ 16 and under draw. The three games she dropped in the final were all she conceded over her three matches en route to the title, proving she was a deserved winner.
Elsewhere at the event, the courts were busy as players of all ages from eight other draws were in action. There was plenty of success for players from Devon with no fewer than five players reaching finals over the course of the week, with two of them emerging as winners. Luke Stapleton beat Alex Crist in an all-Devon final of the men’s event and at the other end of the scale, Finley Hill won the boys’ eight and under round robin draw.
The nine and under boys and girls draws were also round robin events and the winners from each were Oliver Dando from Herefordshire & Worcestershire in the boys’ draw and Lolita Winter-Smith of Avon in the girls’.
As well as Winter-Smith’s victory, there was more glory for Avon players as Cameron Chandler won boy’s 14 and under final thanks to a 6-3, 7-5 win over fellow Avon player Themix Bower, who later had his own reason to celebrate as he won the boy’s 16 and under title, beating Devon Max Kilham 5-3, 4-1 in the final.
In the two other events; Henry Muxworthy, South Wales, beat Cornwall’s William Daniell 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the boy’ 12 and under, whilst Tomas Alam, Lancashire, claimed to boy’s 10 and under title after a 4-0, 4-1 win over Tristan Still, Devon.
