It’s two wins from two for the Taunton men’s doubles team after they registered victories over Millfield School and Exeter David Lloyd in the opening matches of the South West group of the National Indoor Premier League.
The team scored a 4-1 win away to Millfield in their first match to get the ball rolling. An excruciatingly close defeat in the first rubber meant they had to come from behind to win. Alistair Felton and Sam Edwards went down 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 [14-12], but won their next rubber 7-5, 6-2, whilst James Deem and Craig Phillips recorded 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3 wins in their matches to complete to victory.
Taunton made it two wins in as many ties with a strong performance at home to David Lloyd Exeter. A change from the previous tie’s line-up prompted a switching of pairs and the team showed their class with a whitewash victory. Felton and Phillip combined and won their matches 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1. Deem was paired with Matthew Bernard and the duo delivered to more team victories with 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0 wins.
The victories mean that Taunton are currently in second place the South West group, level on points with first-placed Cardiff Metropolitan University, who are yet to lose a rubber or even drop a set in their first two matches. The top two meet in the next round of league matches with both of their 100% records on the line.
