Junior Tennis is on the up at Wincanton Tennis Club and on Sunday 9th October 2011, a new type of 'Junior Pairs Tournament' took place organised through the South Somerset Tennis Development Group (SSTDG) and The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
Peter Lewis (South Somerset Tournament Co-Ordinator) and Jon Rolnik (Head Coach at Wincanton Tennis Club) together with Club Chairman Rik Elvidge and several club volunteers, put on a successful afternoon of 'Mini Red Pairs Tennis'.
The idea of 'Pairs Team Tennis’ is to create a team format for the younger players, adding to the enjoyment of playing tournaments around the local area. The events piloted in South Somerset this Autumn have included Ilminster TC and Wincanton TC and are designed to give Red and Orange players an opportunity to experience local team competition at an appropriate standard.
The South Somerset Tennis Development Group and Somerset LTA will be looking to add more of these 'Pairs Tournaments' to the local calendar in the coming months.
