On Wednesday, (9th October) Frome Town Council approved a proposal from Frome Selwood Tennis Club to raise the necessary funds to replace the existing tennis courts in Frome Victoria Park with 3 new ones, and to lease the new courts to the Club. When complete, the courts will provide brand new facilities for the public to use on a Pay and Play basis.
Sarah Hobbs, the Town Council’s Community Projects Officer said: “We know that playing tennis is popular amongst local people in Frome and that the existing tennis courts could be greatly improved. We are delighted to be working with the tennis club to provide better courts for public and club use”.
The tennis club are now faced with raising the necessary £108,000. As the first stage in the fund-raising effort the club are launching a scheme to enable members of the public to sponsor a square of the new courts:
- The Sponsor your Square Scheme will enable local Frome people to sponsor a small area of the new courts. £10 will "buy" a ¼ square metre of playing surface. To donate, visit the Localgiving.com web site and locate the Frome Selwood Tennis Club Page. The names of those who donate will be kept on permanent record.
- Localgiving.com will match single donations pound-for-pound up to £10 per donation. New monthly donations set up during the campaign will be matched up to £10 a month for six months. Gift Aid will also be provided. so the club will receive more than double the original donation.
- This matching donation scheme known as "Grow your Tenner" will operate from 10am on Tuesday, October 15 until the match pot of £500,000 is all allocated. So if you want your money doubled, it is necessary to act quickly.
John Price (Chairman of Frome Selwood Tennis Club) said: “This is an exciting project and will eventually mean that Frome will have the very best community tennis facilities. The Sponsor your Square scheme is an excellent way for members of the public to start to secure the future of public tennis in Frome. But if you want the government to double your money, then you need to visit www.localgiving.com and donate on October 15th as soon as possible”.
