Frome Selwood Tennis is pleased to announce the appointment of new Head Coach Phil Lawton, as of the 15th September, following in the footsteps of previous Head Coach Jack Shepard, who is moving on to further his career in medicine. Lawton and Shepard have worked together for over two years, both venturing abroad together to teach at a professional academy in Bahrain returning to Frome Selwood Tennis club to share their new skills and ideas to develop the coaching.
Jack Shepard has set high standards and expectations from many club members, with support from right hand man Phil and other assistant coaches, they built upon the clubs existing strengths and created a raving coaching program filling every space available. This successful year, which extended out in to local schools, has left a large number of young enthusiastic juniors and keen adult players of all abilities keen to take their tennis to the next level and have high expectations for the coming year.
The club wishes Jack all the best as he ventures into his further studies and welcomes Phil into his new role and look forward to supporting him as he endeavours to meet the expectations of the eager players awaiting him. Having played not only tennis but many other sports including hockey, cricket and golf Phil is a well rounded sportsman with a passion for technique, drive and ability to perform and as the typical English weather takes its toll and the cold nights begin closing in Phil will be there to maintain the coaching program and enthusiastic spirit of the club.
