Congratulations to the U12 Girls County Cup 2014 team consisting of Freya Hampson-Evans, Kung Phimlee, Alice Klugman and Sally Pethybridge who just lost out in a place at National Finals in the match tie break shoot out against Sussex after achieving some outstanding results earlier in the day.
We arrived in Sussex to play Dorset and Kent on Day 1. All the girls played efficient and effective matches to win all the rubbers setting us up for the tougher Day 2 against Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Sussex.
Kung and Alice managed to win both their singles against both Hampshire and Sussex but Freya, with the toughest position at number 1, played good matches but lost to stronger players.
That meant that the girls had two chances on each match with the doubles and then, if they lost that rubber, the match shoot out doubles. Alice and Kung beat Hampshire’s double team which meant that we had to play Sussex to win the regionals event.
Sussex has a very strong doubles team so it would be a challenge. Freya and Kung played well but were over powered by Sussex in the match. So it was a match shoot out to decide who was going to Bolton. Alice was put on to play to mix it up and both Kung and her played tactically well but Sussex were stronger pair and they took the tie break 10-7. A really great effort from all our players but we lost to a stronger team.
Many congratulations to the girls. They showed a high level of commitment, dedication and professionalism during both the training camps and at the weekend. The girls must be proud of their achievement and we hope it goes on to inspire them for the future.
Many thanks must also go to Chris Tucker, our team coach and Tina Napier for all help in the office.
