Sussex’s 10&Under Girls Team played in the County Cup Regional Qualifying Event at Pavilion & Avenue Tennis Club over the last weekend in May. Our team of Grace Tuson, Lilli Cassidy, Stephanie Vieira and Imogen McNaughton-Ely were all very excited to be representing their County as well as feeling very proud to wear their County Kit as you can see from the photo!
The format was Round Robin and on a sunny first day we had some mixed results beating Hants & IOW 3-1 before losing to Dorset 3-1 after narrowly losing a couple of the matches on the 3rd set championship tie break. The second day had us battling against Kent and Surrey as well as strong wind and rain! Grace, Lilli, Stephanie and Imogen consistently showed such determination in their matches and never once complained about the conditions which was excellent to see. We had some close matches with both teams but ended up just losing both ties finishing 4th in a very strong group. All our girls played some great tennis throughout the weekend, they never stopped fighting no matter what the score was and our team spirit plus our supporters were definitely top of the group!
Team events are so important as well as lots of fun for everyone involved and the girls had a great time playing plus supporting each other and are now looking forward to representing Sussex for many years to come hopefully!
