Charlie Heaton teaches Novak Djokovic a Lesson

Thursday, December 01, 2011

Welsh youngster Charlie Heaton, 13,  brushed shoulders with the current world Number 1 during his experience of being a Barclay's Ball Kid at the recent ATP Tour Finals at the O2 Arena.

Charlie, from David Lloyd Cardiff, completed a week as a Barclays Ball Kid after being selected from 2,500 kids as part of a team of 30.

Charlie also took some time out to teach current World Number 1, Novak Djokovic the art of being a ball kid, the video of which is on the BBC Sport Web-site: Charlie teaches Djokovic how it's done!

Charlie shared his experience of what was undoubtedly a week to rememeber:

"I was 1 out of 30 ball kids to take part in the ATP Masters Tour at the O2 Arena in November 2011. I was selected out of 2,500 applicants from around the country and the only one in Wales, to be selected for the final team of 30.

Qualities needed for selection were team work, sportsmanship, fitness and on court skills. It was the best week of my life as not only was I on court with the top 8 players in the world but I also got to meet the players off court too. I showed Djokovic how to be a ball kid, met Rio Ferdinand and got lots of autographs and made many new friends.

It's a week that I didn't want to end and one that I will never forget".
