Wrexham Tennis Centre was joined by Assembly member Lesley Griffiths to launch fitness programme Cardio Tennis this week.

Cardio Tennis is a fantastic workout for the whole body and is an introduction to a different side of tennis. It has been introduced at the centre through support from Sport Wales and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

Assembly member Lesley Griffiths said: “Cardio Tennis is great fun, more fun than going to the gym. It is an activity for all ages and a great way to keep fit and get the heart rate up. I really enjoyed it.”

Cardio Tennis is a series of tennis-based drills and play-based activities played to up-tempo music on a tennis court. You don’t have to have any tennis skills, it’s all about keeping your heart rate up, burning calories and having fun.

Tennis centre manager Adrian Jones added: “Cardio Tennis provides us with a great opportunity to get more people, more active, more often in a tennis environment.  The appeal is not only to tennis players, but for anyone who wants to get fit and have fun.

“For the launch there were a few people who had never played tennis before who really enjoyed it and others who played several times per week which is what we were hoping for. The sessions will begin in full this weekend (29 January) and we are already booked up so hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
