Thursday, October 04, 2012

Paralympian Louise Hunt heads the entry for the Cardiff International Tennis Federation (ITF) Wheelchair Tennis Tournament next week.

Hunt, from Wanborough, Wiltshire, is ranked 23 in the world and is among 29 players competing in the three-day tournament at Virgin Active Cardiff.

A six-strong Welsh contingent is led by national champion Debbie Brazier from Newport, and also includes: Shaun Swetman and Laura Swetman (Pontypridd); Paul Furber (Blackwood); Martin French (Marshfield); and Tony Heslop (Neath).

“The Paralympics brought the excitement and skill of wheelchair tennis to a whole new audience,” said Paul Pritchard, who is refereeing the Tennis Wales-organised tournament.

“This is a rare chance to see a high-level tournament in Wales, and we welcome spectators to see for themselves.”

The tournament starts at 10am on Friday October 12, and continues on Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome, free of charge. There is parking on site and refreshments available.
