Tennis Coaching Apprenticeships in Wales

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Tennis Wales is delighted to announce that the Tennis Coaching Apprenticeship is now available in Wales. This is an innovative programme which will help the workforce development requirements of employers. It is part of the Welsh Assembly government apprenticeship scheme. A tennis coaching apprentice is employed for 30 hours a week which includes the equivalent of 25 hours ‘on the job’ work in the coaching environment. This will include coaching, assisting, organising competitions, organising social events, updating notice boards, producing marketing material, attending committee meetings and all other areas of coaching and developing a coaching programme. The apprentice will also complete the equivalent of 5 hours a week ‘off the job’ training where they will complete the qualifications required for the apprenticeship. For the 30 hours’ work the apprentice undertakes they must be paid a minimum of £95 per week (all apprentices must be employed not self-employed). There is the opportunity to complete a level 2 or a level 3 apprenticeship – each level is 12 months long.

This is a fantastic opportunity for clubs/centres to grow their own workforce and for young people to join the tennis coaching ladder early to develop their skills both on and off court whilst being paid. If you are interested in becoming an apprentice or employing an apprentice then please contact Ellie Lewis (Tennis Wales Coach Development Manager) on 02920 468333 /07949500497 or via email ellie.lewis@lta.org.uk
