The well-established Junior Open Tournament at Dinas Powis Lawn Tennis Club takes place during the last week of July. It is a popular event with both trophies and prizes to be won as well as ranking points to be earned at this Grade 4 tournament which is part of the LTA summer programme. It is sponsored by Tony Seel of Seel&Co who has a long association with the club.
All ages up to eighteen are catered for with mini events taking place on July 29th, 30thand 31st and other age groups in Singles and Doubles throughout the week. This year’s tournament is organised by Ben Coates, a previous Junior Captain at Dinas Powis, and Rob Cunningham of the Vale Tennis Academy. Entry forms may be downloaded from the Tennis Wales site or ben@valetennisacademy.co.uk Entries close on July 15th.
Vale Tennis Academy provides tennis programmes, school links and competitions within The Vale of Glamorgan. This year Vale Tennis Academy set-up The Vale Match Play Circuit that has consisted of a series of events across The Vale so juniors can compete locally. Rob Cunningham, director of Vale Tennis Academy said “The Vale Circuit has been a great success encouraging many new players to enter their first competition. Learning to compete, respect and fair play are the aims of the circuit, not only are these important skills for tennis but they also make the event more fun and are important skills for child development. We hope to make the Dinas Powis tournament the main highlight event of our match play circuit”.
Dinas Powis Lawn Tennis Club is situated opposite the common in Dinas Powys and has a large car park and clubhouse. Refreshments are available throughout the week of the tournament for players and spectators. A warm welcome awaits all who attend so come and play in this great tournament!
