UPDATE: Safeguarding & Protection in Tennis Course

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

From January 2015 you need to have attended a Safeguarding and Protection in Tennis Course to be able to renew or apply for a LTA Coach Licence or LTA Registration.

Please note that if you have either :

  • Already attended the Safeguarding and Protection Course in 2014;
  • previously attended the Safety and Well-being in Tennis (SWIT) course in 2013-14; OR
  • previously attended an LTA approved Safeguarding course in 2012

you have successfully met the requirement and will be able to renew or apply for a Coach Licence or Registration in 2015.

We are pleased to announce we have two Safeguarding and Protection in Tennis Courses confirmed for Monday 15th December at Bridgend LTC. The first session is from 10am-1pm and has very limited spaces available. The second session is from 2pm-5pm and has more spaces available.

Course date for North Wales are now confirmed as:

  • Colwyn Leisure Centre – 27th 6:30pm-9:30pm
  • Wrexham Tennis Centre – 28th 10am-1pm

Please book onto the course using your Coaches Secure Area on the LTA Website. There is limited space on the course so I would advise you to secure your place as soon as possible. FYI we will be putting this course on again during 2015, this particular course is targeted at those coaches who’s licence expires early on in 2015.

 Any queries, please contact mark.lewis@tenniswales.org.uk

This course will introduce the concept of the four R’s:

  •  Recognise – the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Respond – to disclosures and allegations of abuse and neglect
  • Refer – to the Club Welfare Officer and / or the LTA Safeguarding Team
  • Record – the incident on the Safeguarding Concern Form

Specifically this course will enable you to:

  •  State the definition of a child and adult at risk
  • Identify the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect in children and adults at risk in tennis
  • Practise dealing with a disclosure
  • State best practice on how to gain consent from children and adults at risk
  • State how to respond to unsafe working practices and safeguarding concerns
  • Identify the Safeguarding Concern Form and how to complete the relevant sections
