Miss-Hits Comes to Town

14 LEVEL 2 OR HIGHER COACHES ATTENDED THE TRAINING WORKSHOP, which was held on 20th November at Newport Tennis Centre.

The programme has been designed by Judy Murray supported by Laura Middleton and Shona Ross to encourage more young girls into the game.

It approaches teaching the shots in an innovative way performing the warm up to music as a dance routing then teaching all the shots in relation to a Miss Hits character to whom the girls can identify with.

The fun and energetic course enabled 14 of our female coaches to become trained to deliver 2 blocks (starting January) of 6 weeks.

The photos below provide an insight into the way slow moving colourful equipment is used to play creating a fun social group for the girls to learn and have loads of fun.

Each of the coaches are given the equipment pack with fun stickers colouring books and all the equipment needed to deliver. The LTA are also supporting these coaches with £150.00 of promotional material being made available for each of the coaches.

While Judy was unable to be there in person, her thoughts were conveyed through video. The course was delivered by the 2 tutors – Laura Middleton who is the engine behind Tuscan Tennis Holidays and a County level player and Shona Ross who trained as a dancer and now coaches mini tennis and football.

The wealth of experience from different back grounds provided a really great day and we hope to see more new girls attending then progressing into the mini tennis programme at the club or centre.
