The North Wales girls’ under-18 tennis team has won promotion in the Aegon County Cup.
The girls won all three of their matches at the tournament in Gloucester to secure promotion to division 4B. They beat Northamptonshire 7-2, Oxfordshire 6-3, and Berkshire 5-4.
The team consisted of Charlotte Ainge, Megan Davies, Ethne Dowling (of Wrexham Tennis Centre); Lucie Hogg, Beca Hughes and Catrin Hughes (Mold Tennis Club); and Elin Anderson (James Alexander Barr Tennis Centre, Colwyn Bay). Jenny Broughall was captain and Kathryn Rymer assistant captain.
“This was a great achievement for the girls to gain promotion for the second year in succession, particularly with a clean-sweep of victories in the tournament,” said team captain, Jenny Broughall.
Elsewhere in the competition, the U18 North Wales boys battled to hold their place in group 6, while the South Wales U18 boys and girls teams lost in group 2.

Dyrchafiad i ferched Gogledd Cymru yn y Cwpan Sirol
Mae tîm tennis merched dan 18 Gogledd Cymru wedi cael dyrchafiad yng nghwpan Sirol Aegon.
Enillodd y merched pob un o’u tair gornest yn y twrnamaint yng Nghaerloyw, a chael eu dyrchafu felly i adran 4B. Curon nhw Northamptonshire 7-2, Swydd Rhydychen 6-3, a Berkshire 5-4.
Aelodau’r tîm oedd Charlotte Ainge, Megan Davies, Ethne Dowling (o Ganolfan Tennis Wrecsam); Lucie Hogg, Beca Hughes a Catrin Hughes (Clwb Tennis yr Wyddgrug); ac Elin Anderson (Canolfan Tennis James Alexander Barr, Bae Colwyn). Jenny Broughall oedd y capten gyda Kathryn Rymer yn gapten cynorthwyol.
“Roedd hi’n gamp wych i’r merched i gael eu dyrchafu am yr ail flwyddyn yn olynol, ac yn arbennig trwy ennill pob un o’u gornestau yn y twrnamaint,” meddai capten y tîm, Jenny Broughall.
Yng ngweddill y gystadleuaeth, brwydrodd tîm bechgyn dan 18 Gogledd Cymru i gadw’i safle yng ngrŵp 6, a chollodd timau bechgyn a merched dan 18 De Cymru yng ngrŵp 2.
