Newport Tennis Centre run by Newport Live recently held a School Roadshow Academy in partnership with Phil Leighton from Crossports and supported by Tennis Wales. Phil and the Team of coaches from Newport Tennis Centre visited 11 Primary Schools across Newport to offer a Taster in Tennis. The sessions involved hand-eye coordination and balance and agility activities along with lots of fun! Over the week the team visited over 1,375 children and inspired the next generation of Tennis players within Newport.
The Children were then offered to attend one of our open days during the weekend of the 29th/30th September to take part in fun-filled sessions at the Indoor Tennis Centre. During the weekend over 340 children visited Newport Tennis Centre to take part in one of the open day sessions leading to over 100 new sign ups to the Newport Live Tennis Programme.
Luke Difranco – Tennis Manager for Newport Live said: “ The Schools Tennis Roadshow initiative was a massive success for the Tennis Centre giving many new Children a chance to participate in a Sport for Life. Our programme at the Tennis Centre has continued to grow since the Roadshow and it’s truly inspiring to see many smiling faces and to see the Children still enjoying their Tennis!.”
