Edgbaston Priory has won the National Premier League Doubles event for the 2nd year in a row, beating Esporta Cardiff 4-0 in the final. The finals took place on Sunday 26th April at Esporta Gloucester. The National Premier League starts off in October with 50 teams around the country playing group matches - the top 12 teams make the finals. As Priory are defending champions they were given direct entry into the finals this year, so they have secured their place in the finals for next year too now after winning this year.
The club’s team is captained by Dan Kiernan, who is the Under 12 Performance Tennis Coach at Edgbaston Priory and a former Wimbledon player. The rest of the team consists of Simon Dickson (club coach and former world junior number one), James Southwood (club coach), Andrew Banks (former GB Davis Cup player) and Radek Nijaki (former Polish Davis Cup player). Daniel Kiernan & Simon Dickson were undefeated all weekend, not dropping a set in 6 matches.
The tournament this year has attracted some of the country’s top doubles players, and the following players also took part for other teams over the finals weekend; Jamie Murray, Jonny Marray, Ross Hutchins, Colin Fleming and James Auckland.
