On Friday 13th November at The Nottingham Tennis Centre, the Midlands regional coaching team held a coach master class session on movement in world class tennis directed at Under 10 performance players.
All satellite clubs, Higher Satellite Clubs and High Performance Centre staff were invited to attend the performance workshop. The session was an overwhelming success with over 70 coaches attending from across the region. Warwickshire were well represented with over 17 coaches and physical conditioners in attendance.
The coaches were in for a massive treat as Jez Green was the tutor for the morning. For those of you who are unaware of Jez Green’s role, he is part of Andy Murray’s travelling team helping him over the past couple of years to achieve a career high of Number 2 in the world. He is also in charge of physical conditioning of the rising stars at the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy. Previously he held a role within the Lawn Tennis Association as a Senior Physical Conditioner.
Over the session Jez highlighted a number of areas for coaches to consider when working with their key players and future programme planning. Among the areas covered were:
• Footwork Placement Patterns.
• The importance of making exercises tennis specific.
• Medicine ball work.
• Understanding the key principles of movement for Under 10 key players.
The day was a huge success. The coaches benefited massively from Jez’s experience and we look forward to working again with him soon. We wish Andy and Jez huge success for the future.
