Club of the Year Award For Moreton-in-Marsh Tennis Club

Moreton-in-Marsh Tennis Club have been voted the South Warwickshire and District Summer League “Club of the Year”.  The announcement by the “Prudden League” Secretary Corin Bishop was received with delight by Chairman Terry Parkes and the rest of the club officials.

The award, known as the “King Cup” was a tribute to the people who run the teams and was decided by several factors.  First all clubs who had teams fined, or failed to field teams, or fielded only one pair for a match during the season and also those who had received warnings for late score sheets and/or made errors when submitting scorecards were eliminated.  This left six clubs who deserve a mention in despatches: Aston Cantlow; Evesham; Harbury; Ilmington; Moreton-in-Marsh and Pershore.  An essential ingredient for this award is that they must enter a team into the league’s junior competition.  This left only Evesham and Moreton in the running.  It was a close run thing, but in view of the achievement of managing two unblemished men’s teams and the jobs done by Chris Adams for the A Team and Dennis Fisher for the B Team, plus their overall leader in the background Terry Parkes and James Hilltout’s efforts in his first season with the juniors, they pipped Evesham for the trophy. Moreton-in-Marsh Tennis Club become the seventh winners of the “King Cup” and now carry the title of the “Best club in 2010”.
