Well today was a real mixed bag in terms of weather. Upon drawing the curtains this morning I was greeted with more rain, instantly making my heart sink! Driving to the Edgbaston Priory Club still rain, by the time I had parked my car and got changed still rain and once I arrived in the Warwickshire LTA tent still rain, at this point it was not looking to good in terms of play on the grass courts.
However, on the artificial courts today we had a special regional match of 'The Midlands' vs. 'The South East' at mini orange and mini green tennis. The midlands team consisted of Tom Thelwall-Jones, Summer Yardley, Hannah Davey, (Green) and Harry Finney, Ben Brewster, Victoria Allen and Anna Chesca (Orange). (Upon leaving the grounds today the midlands team were 14-1 up on matches so a convincing victory there for the midlands region).
By 10.30am the rain stopped (to everyone’s surprise) and ever since then it was actually a rather nice day. Everyone was happy as the tennis resumed after a terrible day yesterday.
In other news we welcomed over 15 schools to the mini tennis zones today which added up totaled more than 200 children. It seemed that one school had sent all its children to the Babolat shop before they went on the Mini Tennis Slams Zone as they were all parading around with brand new Babolat bandanas (I guess they were all fans of Rafael Nadal). As the matches are now playing catch-up due to the rain it seemed there was a full roster of players on site as I bumped into Ann Keothavong, Heather Watson and Maria Sharapova on more than one occasion.
Other than that it was quite a quiet day but as the matches pile up due to the bad weather the last few days are going to be rather busy I feel. Roll on Day 4!
