Local schoolchildren attended a Tennis Festival at Penns Lane Tennis Club to mark the opening of the new facilities. Sadly a visit by professional players from the Aegon Classic in Birmingham was cancelled due to rain delays at the event. Nonetheless all the children had a real fun day and were all impressed with the new facilities.
Paul Bayliss, Head Coach said,
“We have already benefitted from the £160K investment that has seen courts resurfaced and floodlit, new mini courts and a new pavilion (completion July 2010). Without this the club would not have attracted the 150 children who recently attended holiday camps and competition initiatives.
We are indebted to the LTA, RPT and Sutton Municipal Charities for their investment.
Penns Lane has an extensive coaching programme attended by hundreds of children of all ages. Adults also benefit from various coaching initiatives.
The club motto is “It’s not anyone for tennis, it’s everyone for tennis!”
