LADIES NATIONAL OVER 60'S INTER COUNTY SUMMER LEAGUE

Warwickshire Veterans Over 50's captain Alana Parsons gives warwickshiretennis.net a report on the ladies veterans team progress over the past few months in the Inter County Summer League (60+) and the Corby Veterans Inter County League (50+).

As GB National Champions from last year this season did not start well with our first fixture against West of Scotland at Warwick Boat Club, which we lost 2 - 3.  We beat Middlesex at Warwick Boat Club and Suffolk at Ipswich, both 5-0.  We beat Staffordshire at Draycott,  3 -2 but then lost to Surrey at the Boat Club, 2-3.  Our star, Jenny Waggott,  played in all the matches and did not drop one rubber.  Jackie Robinson also played every match but lost out on two of her singles to high ranking GB players. I played in 4 matches, Liz Litherland from Priory played 3, Paula Maxwell from Four Oaks, Kath Brown from Solihull Arden and Cheryl Taylor from Leamington all played one match each.

We came 3rd overall and look forward to our matches next year when we hope to pick up those vital sets against the second pair doubles which makes the difference between winning and losing.

I would like to express special thanks to Gavin Henderson at Warwick Boat Club for allowing us the use of their facilities for our home matches and also Dave Cropper at Solihull Arden for allowing the ladies veterans teams to use their courts for practices on the first monday of every month at 10.00am.  These practices are very well supported and enjoyed by players from all over the County.

In regards to the 50+ Corby Veterans Inter County League, it was won by Nottingham ,who have a very strong team with at least 1 GB player amongst them, always a great well fought match.  We came joint third - 14 ladies played.  From Warwick Boat Club, Susie Rowe (5), Roseanne Mann (3), Jackie Sadler (3) Anna Potts (3) : From Solihull Arden , Alana Parsons (4), Kath Brown (2) : From Kenilworth Caroline Rhodes (3), Kay Gebbles (1), From Edg Priory, Vicky Lilford (1) : From Leamington, Sarah Butler (1) : From Four Oaks, Alison Ker (1) and from Knowle and Dorridge, Jean Badman (1) and Judy Turner (1).
