This year the number of clubs entering was 2 less than in 2010 and the total no of teams entered decreased by 16.
A total of 85 teams entered from 7 clubs in 2011 compared with 101 teams from 9 clubs in 2010.
The only age group which increased was u14.The no of boys and mixed teams fell whilst the girls remained static.

The proportion of girls to boys teams increased from 30% in 2010 to 31% in 2011.The total no of girls teams was static but mixed teams fell.
Last year, as has become the norm, I urged clubs to be proactive to increase girl’s participation by entering an equal number of boys and girls teams. Even if the standard of girls entered was lower than you would normally consider, more girls would be competing and numbers in future years would hopefully increase. In addition entering more mixed teams would also assist in getting more girls playing matches.
The no of U17 teams has fallen alarmingly over the last 2 years and there is now also the need to encourage more U17 players to play junior league matches.
As in the last 2 years club contacts were left to arrange matches between themselves. This year play by dates for matches were introduced and the matches started later to minimise clashes with Aegon Junior Club League matches. Regrettably team organizers again reported a lot of difficulty in arranging matches. As usual the pattern varied with some sections playing most of the matches and some playing none. This can only be improved by club key contacts who enter teams getting the message to team organisers how important it is to contact fellow organisers to arrange matches within the deadlines. However, above all organisers need to be more flexible in finding dates which suit both teams.
