Doubles win for Brits in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM: In a battle of the top two seeded teams in the doubles final, it was second seeded British duo Andrew Fitzpatrick and Joshua Ward-Hibbert who emerged victorious to claim back-to-back doubles titles in Vietnam.

The Brits recorded a hard fought three set victory over the number one seeds Logan Mackenzie and Dane Propoggia of New Zealand and Australia respectively.

The top seeds held the initiative after the first set which they won 64 but the British pair, one of three all-European partnerships in the main draw, forced the title match into a third set with a close 9-7 tiebreak win.

Fitzpatrick and Ward-Hibbert, who teamed up for the first time back in mid-January, then added to their title triumph at this same venue the previous week by claiming the third set on a match tiebreak [11-9].

This was their second victory over their southern hemisphere opponents out in Vietnam having also survived a tough match against the pair at the semifinal stage en route to their maiden title win the previous week.
