The South Warwickshire Junior Summer Tennis League competition gets under way this month with free entry to teams of 12 years old and under as at 1st March. This year the League has enjoyed maintaining its record entry of 24 teams making up six Pools. While losing Harbury, Inkberrow and Alcester D, E and F teams, the league welcomes two new clubs in Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick and three new teams in Henley C and HDA Redditch D & E teams, to replace them.
The competition takes the format of six Pools, each consisting of four teams, geographically local to each other, who each take it in turn to host a Pool every month over the summer between March and June. Pools will be played on a round robin basis with one pair of juniors from each club, one set each match (tie break normally at 6-6), allowing 3 sets/matches per team per pool night. On Monday, July 8th there will be a Play-Off Pool night at a Bidford-on-Avon Tennis Club between the winning teams from each of the six pools all of which will also receive Pool Winners medals. The top two teams from these play-offs will then go on to play in a full Cup Final to be played at HDA Tennis Club Redditch alongside the men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final on Sunday 1st September 2013. The Annual League Presentations and Trophies will be made immediately following this event with a free Buffet.
No fines are issued only points awarded i.e.: 2 for win, 1 for loss, 0 for fail to turn up.
Winners of the competition will receive a returnable Cup to keep for the year and both winners and runners-up receive personal medals to keep. All medals will be financed by the League President, Alcester man Tony King.
The Pools for 2013 consist of the following clubs who are mostly fairly local to each other:-
Pool A - Henley-in-Arden A, Henley-in-Arden C, Claverdon, and Tanworth-in-Arden.
Pool B - Warwick, Chipping Campden B, Henley-in-Arden B, and Snitterfield.
Pool C - Chipping Campden A, Evesham, Pershore and Shipston.
Pool D - Bidford-on-Avon, Ilmington, Littletons and Stratford-on-Avon.
Pool E - Alcester A, HDA B Redditch, Alcester C and HDA D Redditch
Pool F - HDA A Redditch, Alcester B, HDA C Redditch and HDA E Redditch.
HDA Redditch start the season by hosting Pool F's opening Pool Night on Sunday, 3rd March. Then Chipping Campden are hosts for Pool C on Friday, 15th March. Next up is Bidford who host Pool D on Monday, 18th March, then Henley-in-Arden in Pool A on Thursday, 21st March, followed by Alcester in Pool E host on Friday. 22nd March. Finally, Pool B gets underway when Warwick host their Pool on Thursday, 28th March, 2013. All Pool matches begin at 6.30pm unless stipulated except weekend dates.
