Talented young Brit Tara Moore will be looking for a strong showing at the Aegon GB Pro-Series in Edgbaston as she looks to overhaul former British No.1 Elena Baltacha in the domestic rankings.
Spectators can watch world-class tennis completely free of charge at the Edgbaston Priory Club from April 7-13 during the $25,000 tournament which is the largest prize of the indoor season on the Aegon GB Pro-Series tour so far this year.
Seventh-highest ranked on the acceptance list, Moore leads the British hopes having made a scintillating start to her season, winning the opening two rounds of the Pro-Series before taking home the spoils in the $25,000 Surprise tournament in Arizona.
Currently 206th in the world, one behind Baltacha, Moore is set to swap places with points yet to be added to her ranking and a good showing in the midlands could see the 20-year-old break into the world top 200 for the first time in her career.
Samantha Murray and Lisa Whybourn also hold British interests in the main draw but face a strong international line-up which includes regulars at Grand Slams, Russian Ekaterina Bychkova and the French former world No.60 Julie Coin – who Moore beat in Arizona.
And with Turkey’s Cagla Buyukakcay the No.1 ranked player on the acceptance list and exciting youngsters such as South African Chanel Simmonds also in the mix, competition is expected to be at a premium.
Tournament director Sarah Wooding said: “We are all set for a great week of women’s tennis with some of the world’s top players coming to Edgbaston.
“Hopefully lots will come down to cheer the players on as admission is free of charge and it is a great chance to see some of the best up and coming players ahead of the summer.
“We are really excited with the field of players who have entered and I can’t wait for it to all get started.”
Qualifying takes place on April 7 and 8 before the main draw gets started on April 9 and runs until the the 13th. The doubles final will take place on Friday 12th April, with the singles final scheduled to start at 11am on Saturday 13th April.
