A group of Belarusian children have been experiencing Henley in Arden Tennis Club hospitality at its best. The group, from the Chernobyl Children’s Project have enjoyed a week of fun visiting the Stratford upon Avon Butterfly Farm, going on a boat trip on the River Avon and swimming at Stratford Leisure Centre. Today it was Henley in Arden’s Tennis Clubs turn to serve up the entertainment.
The children thoroughly adored the sport and the enthusiasm of the coaches, Neil Supperstone and Sam Turner who welcome visitors from the Chernobyl Children’s Project each year. Some of the children played tennis for the first time in their lives. This year the tennis games included dodge ball, basic ball skills and rallying. All the children loved the sport and insisted on continuing playing even when the session had ended!
The 16 children, aged between 13-15 years old, are in the UK for a further month and are looking forward to visits to both Cadbury World and London. Host families from across Warwickshire are giving these children a home during the summer before they return back to Belarus. After playing tennis, one young man told his host family that ‘it was fantastic’ and ‘it was the best thing he had ever done’. So a massive thanks to both the coaches at the event for making it so successful.
The Chernobyl Children’s Project seeks to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in Belarus. The Charity supports children with disabilities and providing lifesaving medicines for children with cancer and improving the health care for children living in contaminated areas. All donations to this important Charity are greatly appreciated as it provides much needed support and to contact the Warwickshire group charity contact kenkath.ruane@gmail.com. A huge appreciation to all the families who hosted a child from the Chernobyl Children’s Project this year and a special thanks to group organiser Catherine Treacy.
